So, your boss, colleague, friend, family or worse junior staff member or child just criticized you and you’ve begun to spiral from annoyance and rage into self- criticism. STOP!

Validate Yourself

No one can make you feel bad … or good for that matter. You need to ensure that you control your emotions. People will disappoint – even your best friend. So, define yourself. Like yourself. In fact, go one more step. Treat yourself like your most beloved and precious lover. What would you say to your best friend or lover if they were in the situation?

Separate Your Actions From Yourself

You are not your actions. You are an awesome person who may have made an error in judgement. That’s it. When you make a mistake, acknowledge the error, let it go and move on. Don’t get caught in the shame or guilt. It only hurts you in the long run and in fact, there’s nothing to be gained by victimizing yourself. Forgive yourself and move on.

You Are Good At Something

And finally, for a super-quick fix to your self-worth, write down 3 or 4 things that you do well. It can be something as simple as making people smile. Acknowledge the things that make you proud or happy. A close examination of these things should remind you – “Hey I Am Awesome!”

If you pay attention to these three areas, you can quickly restore your sense of self-worth. The key is to be aware, alert and move quickly to head off negative thoughts before they negate your sense of worthiness.

Always remember, You Are Awesome! No matter what anyone else says. You Are Awesome.
